Welcome to our official website!
Winchester Bay Rural Fire Protection District, serving the
community of Winchester Bay with Fire, Rescue, and EMS services. The
department provides services to the community of Winchester Bay as well as
contracted fire and rescue service to Salmon Harbor and the dunes. This
encompasses a population of approximately 400 in the winter and up to 5,000 in the summer.
The fire hall is located on the corner of Sixth Street and
Broadway Avenue in Winchester Bay and houses two fire trucks and a rescue
vehicle. We also share space with Douglas County on the dunes where our
three ATV's are kept ready for dunes rescue operations. The
dunes rescue operation is funded by grants from Douglas County (Title 3
grants) and Oregon State ATV funds.
The department responds to approximately 158 alarms per
year. In 2011 we responded to 144 calls: 19 fire calls, 19 motor vehicle
accidents, 71 quick response team (medical emergency), 41 ATV dunes rescue calls,
and 4 others.
Winchester Bay Rural Fire Protection District is staffed by
14
volunteer fire fighting personnel. To learn how you can volunteer with WBRFPD,
please attend a training meeting on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm at the fire hall
to introduce yourself to the chiefs and other volunteers.
On this website, you'll find information about our station and
personnel, weather, news and other important information for our communities. Be
sure to check out the information on Disaster Preparedness. And we'll be adding
new information often, so be sure to check back for the latest news.
Thank you for visiting. We hope you'll return often.
